The Grand Western Heritage trail

The Grand Western had a grand vision to link across the South West peninsula with a practical waterway.  Although that vision was never realised, the canal's builders have left a wonderful collection of iconic structures in a gorgeous strip of countryside.
 

Our latest project will build on that legacy to create a heritage and wildlife corridor linking the historically important rural centres of Taunton and Tiverton. 
 

Since launching the project at our 2021 AGM, we have exploring how best to develop a trail for all ages and interests with partners in local archaeology and wildlife conservation groups.
